What we keep.

Plain words. Last updated 9 October 2026.

Who we are

The Pantry Method is run by Thomas Lawson, a sole trader in Romsey, Hampshire, United Kingdom. Questions or requests: hello@thepantrymethod.online.

What we keep, and why

Your account. Your name, email and password (only ever stored scrambled). If you sign in with Google or Apple, the id they give us.

Your body details. Sex, date of birth, height, weight, waist, how active you are, your goal and any plan. We use them for one thing: working out what you burn and what you aim to eat. These are health details, so we only use them because you chose to give them to set up your numbers, and you can take them back at any time.

Your weeks. The shops you add, what's in your pantry, what you ate out, your routines and how each week closed. This is the bank; it's how the app works.

The launch list. If you leave your email on the front page before launch, we keep it only to tell you it's live, then delete it.

Your membership. Whether you're a member and when it renews. We never see or store a card number: Stripe, Apple or Google handle that.

Photos

When you snap a receipt, a plate, a menu or a label, it's sent to our AI provider to be read into words and numbers, then thrown away. We don't keep photos. The app only opens the camera or your photos when you tap to add one.

Who helps us

A small number of services run the app: Fly.io (hosting, London), Neon (database, London), Anthropic (the AI that reads photos and prices food), Resend (our emails), RevenueCat (keeps app-store memberships in step), and Stripe, Apple and Google (payments and sign-in). Each only gets what it needs to do its job and is bound by a data protection agreement. Some are US companies; those transfers are covered by the UK's approved safeguards.

Where the numbers come from

Calories, macros, sugar and salt come from each product's own label. Vitamins and minerals come from McCance and Widdowson's Composition of Foods Integrated Dataset (CoFID), Public Health England: contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Product labels are also drawn from Open Food Facts, made available under the Open Database Licence.

What we don't do

No adverts. No selling your data. No tracking across other apps or websites. The only cookie keeps you signed in, so there's no cookie banner.

How long

For as long as you have an account. Delete your account (Settings → Your profile) and everything goes, straight away. Payment records are kept for six years because the tax rules require it.

Your rights

You can see what we hold, get a copy, correct it, delete it, or take back your body details at any time. Most of this is in Settings; for anything else, email hello@thepantrymethod.online and we'll answer within a month. If you're not happy with how we've handled something, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.

Who it's for

Adults, 18 and over. The Pantry Method is a food budgeting tool, not medical advice. If you have an eating disorder, are pregnant, or have a medical condition, talk to your GP before changing how you eat.

Changes

If this changes in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect.
